“Patterns understood by you, reaching out beyond and before…”

On 3rd August, 1968, YES played their first concert at the East Mersea Youth Camp in Essex.
Today, 4th Aug 2017, YES is entering our 50th year in existence, with the first night of the #YESTIVAL USA & Canada Tour at White Oak Amphitheatre at Greensboro Coliseum Complex, North Carolina, USA (see more below).

We are so pleased to be playing for you tonight and on this Tour. We have some exciting announcements coming up soon about #YES50 – our 50th Anniversary celebrations planned for 2018 – we’ll keep you updated here on yesworld.com.

All of us in YES hope you will join us in celebrating the life and legacy of our wonderful band, and we would most of all like to express our gratitude to our incredible fans who have stuck with us for all these years.

“Time, like gold dust, brings mind down..”

(lyrics from ‘Beyond & Before’ (Squire/Bayley)- the first track from the first YES Album from 1969)

YESTIVAL Tour 2017

YESTIVAL – Tour Dates Announced

As announced on YES’s SiriusXM show, the YESTIVAL Tour will feature YES, Todd Rundgren and Carl Palmer’s ELP Legacy.

For these 2017 YESTIVAL shows, YES will play one track live, from each studio album from YES (1969) to DRAMA (1980), chronologically, with a few surprises thrown in.

YES & Alan White welcome Dylan Howe for 31 dates of the USA YESTIVAL Tour

2017 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees YES and longtime drummer Alan White have today (7/26) announced that Dylan Howe, son of guitarist Steve Howe, will be joining the band’s rhythm section on this summer’s 31-date North American YESTIVAL tour creating a twin drum powerhouse alongside White, in similar fashion that Bill Bruford and White brought on their Union Tour in the early 1990s with two drummers playing simultaneously.

“It’s a pleasure for me to welcome Dylan Howe to the YES stage,” shares White. “I’ve known Dylan for most of his life and I’m proud to think I’ve helped to be an inspiration in his musical journey. I’m very much looking forward to performing with him this summer for the upcoming YES tour.”

“I feel very honored and fortunate to have got the call to join YES this summer,” adds Dylan. “This to me is, quite possibly, the musical zenith of my career – my love for this music and the great musicianship that runs through it has always been a massive inspiration to me. Bill and Alan’s drumming is why I started playing the drums in the first place, and to have the opportunity to honor their great contribution to drumming whilst playing alongside Alan with my brilliant father and this outstanding lineup is a dream come true for me.”

Tour Video Diary

Beginning Saturday July 29, the band members in YES have started keeping a Video Diary of the #YESTIVAL and YES USA & Canada 2017 Tour.

This unique Video Diary, made in conjunction with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Live Nation, will give the band’s dedicated and longstanding multi-generational fans, and all music lovers, a look at touring from the band’s point of view.

The series is being updated regularly throughout the tour on the YES Facebook & Twitter, website and across the band’s and Rock Hall’s social networks.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

In addition, as part of the Cleveland YESTIVAL date, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame will celebrate the 2017 Inductees with a week-long series of events August 15-20. Fans are invited to the Rock Hall to celebrate the music and influence of YES with a week of live music, programs, films, and a dedication for the 2017 Inductee exhibit with members of the band. Visit www.rockhall.com for more details.

“YES is an immensely talented band whose fans tirelessly pursued recognition for them into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” said Greg Harris, President and CEO, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. “We’re celebrating the sounds and legacy of the prog-rock giants and 2017 Inductees with a week of events at the Rock Hall with fans around the globe.”

This summer’s annual trek will feature a set list of Greatest Hits from all of the band’s studio albums up to 1980, showcasing the storied history of one of the world’s most influential, ground-breaking, and respected progressive rock bands. YES–Steve Howe (guitar since 1970), Alan White (drums since 1972), Geoff Downes (keyboards; first joined in 1980), Jon Davison (vocals since 2011) and Billy Sherwood (guitar/keyboards in the 1990s and the late Chris Squire’s choice to take over bass/vocals in 2015)–will treat fans to such hits as “Roundabout” and “Starship Trooper,” performing at least one song from each of the band’s first 10 albums starting with 1969’s Yes to 1980’s Drama.

YES ‘Album Series’ Tales/Drama USA Tour Reviews

“Shying away from their main stream hits for this tour, as a gift to their fans base, they began their set by playing all six songs of the Drama album.  Nearly every song yielded a standing ovation from the crowd and some people stood up alone when the feeling moved them to do so.

The Drama album was followed up by You and I from their 1972 Close To The Edge album and Perpetual Change from their 1971 The Yes Album.

The first set was inspiring and immaculately performed.  If anyone in the audience  had any reservations about seeing them live without their original line up; those reservations were a distant memory.  I would have never imagined that anyone could fill Jon Anderson’s shoes. But Jon Davison’s soaring vocals match so well you may never know you were listening to a different person.

The band took an intermission and fans made their way to the wine tables in the lobby still high from the opus they just experienced.

When the performance started again they opened with possibly their most inspiring song from Tales from Topographic Oceans; The Revealing Science of God (Dance of the Dawn). It was nearly 20 minutes of seat gripping bliss.

It would not be a Yes concert without at least one Steve Howe solo. Tucked away in the song The Ancient is a little segment they like to call Leaves of Green.  When Steve plays it, you can feel his deep connection to this song. I have seen it in live recordings many times in my life but nothing compares to hearing it live.

They ended their set with The Ritual (Nous Somme Du Soleil). Intricate and extraordinary, I am certain that there were members of the audience that had a spiritual moment during this song.

The band received a long standing ovation at the end and treated their fans to a three song encore. Roundabout kept everyone moving on their feet and most the crowd stayed standing for Starship Trooper.

Just as we thought the concert was over the band played tribute to John Wetton of the group Asia, who passed away this January 31st, with the song Heat of the Moment. Changing nothing from the original song it was flawlessly preformed.

As fans walked to their cars everyone was still excited.  I could over hear comments about the show. I believe my favorite was, “As an Atheist, music like this could make me believe there is a God”.  Yes, for all of the creativity and imagination that went into creating and producing their music, Yes live is still out of this world.” – Lori Dantzler, Flick of the Finger Magazine.

“The pieces were nothing short of a tour de force of musical ambition, complexity and remarkable synchronicity. It sounded outstanding. This version of YES seems to play at a higher level, a more powerful level, like they’ve been together a decade or more. These guys are on no nostalgia tour. They play it like they mean business, with little intention of slowing down” – Raymond Britt, Chicago Tribune

Visually, YES have stepped up the production on the tour courtesy of video designer Andy Clark and lighting designer Don Weeks, with multiple video feeds featuring Roger Dean imagery, from waterfalls and floating islands to topographic landscapes, bioluminescence, deep sea creatures, jellyfish, and marine life.

“With a large LED background that displayed colorful graphics as well as the occasional YES logo, the band delivered over 2½ hours of classic music that had attendees picking their jaws up off the floor.” – Chris Loomis, SoCal Music Today

But here’s a more shocking truth: The version of Yes aboard this year’s Cruise to the Edge sounded sharper and more engaged than they have in a decade. – Ryan Reed, Ultimate Classic Rock

“Yes continues with its tradition of symphonic progressive rock that remains timelessly fresh and innovative.”Tampa Bay Newspapers

Cruise to the Edge 2017: Yes Revamp ‘Drama,’ Honor John Wetton
“During their second set, the band deviated from their own catalog for an especially poignant moment – paying tribute to late John Wetton, the prog icon and bass guitar master who spent many years alongside Howe and keyboardist Geoff Downes in Asia. In the encore, the quintet performed that band’s signature 1982 hit “Heat of the Moment””Ultimate Classic Rock

After enduring intense back pain which began halfway through YES’ spring European tour, and working with European and American doctors, spinal specialists, exploring optional treatments, I’ve had no choice but to undergo surgery to repair an injured disc in my lower back. I’m pleased to announce a very positive result from this procedure, which took place in Seattle.

With some rest and physical therapy, I should be back in good form and ready to rejoin the Summer YES Tour in the near future. I’m eager to be on the road with the band but also need to ensure my recovery is complete before doing so.

Until I’m able to rejoin the tour, my good friend Jay Schellen will be performing with the band and keeping my drum stool warm. Please welcome him to our YES family; he’s doing a great service by stepping in last minute so as to not disappoint everyone hoping to see YES music performed live this summer.

Please know that I’ll be back as soon as physically possible and looking forward to taking my place on stage with the band.

Thanks for all your well wishes and support.

Please send your good wishes to Alan in the Comments of this Facebook Post.
